There have been some hilariously inaccurate predictions when it comes to technology, such as one of YouTube's founders being concerned that people might simply not want to watch that many videos. The rise of smart technology is something that cannot be underestimated, with smartphones and smart locks now being completely implemented in daily life for many people. Though commonplace, smart locks are largely concerned with monitoring and controlling access via the front door of your home. But what about when your specific security needs start at the very edge of your property? If entry to your property is controlled by automatic gates, are there any advantages to configuring them to become smart gates?
Automatic and Smart
Smart gates work on the same principle as automatic gates, and while entry remains automatic, determining just who can enter becomes smart. For an automatic gate to become a smart gate, it simply requires the addition of hardware to enable an additional level of functionality. There are a number of devices available, and the choice of manufacturer is yours, depending on your budget and requirements. Professional installation to handle the required cabling is generally a wise course of action. But what makes a gate smart?
Controlling Access
Much like a smart lock, you can grant access as needed. You and anyone else who lives in your home will have open access, meaning that the gates can be opened via the app on your respective smartphones. You can enable access to anyone else you choose, either by creating a single use key feature or a fixed term key feature. This is convenient when you have visitors or need to grant one-off access to your property, such as for tradespeople. You can also remotely open your gates via your smartphone if required.
A Greater Level of Security
It could be suggested that smart gates (operated by a secure Bluetooth connection) offer a greater level of security than standard automatic gates, which generally transmit a radio signal from the remote control. The same level of encryption can also be added to your garage door, which can then be operated using the same system as your smart gate. For increased home security, a camera monitoring system can be added to allow you to screen visitors who might arrive on foot.
When automatic gates are an integral part of your home's perimeter security, you might want to make them as smart as they can be.
