A walk-in bath may look like a perfect solution if you find it difficult to use your current tub. Having a bath with a door takes away the need to step into the tub — with this kind of bath, you simply walk in and out.
However, walk-in baths do have some downsides. The main difference you'll notice is that you have to get in the bath before you run the water. This may not sound like a big problem, but it can make taking a bath less relaxing than it might be.
How can adding tap temperature controls help?
What Are Tap Temperature Controls?
Tap temperature controls regulate the temperature of the water that comes out of a hot tap. They can be fitted to your general hot water system to control all of its hot water taps, or to individual taps.
If a tap is temperature controlled, then it will always produce water at its pre-set temperature. The tap won't run cold and then get hotter. It starts off at the temperature you choose and stays the same.
Why Fit a Temperature Control to Your Bath Tap?
One of the worst things about walk-in baths is filling the tub. You can't begin to run your bath until you're sitting in the empty tub with the door closed. Then, you have to sit and wait until the tub fills before you can enjoy your bath.
If your taps run on a traditional hot and cold system, then you may end up juggling your taps to get the right water temperature. This isn't always easy or comfortable. For example, if your hot water tap runs cold for a while before the water turns hot, then you will have to sit in cold water until enough hot water comes through to warm up your bath.
If the hot tap on your walk-in bath is temperature controlled, then this isn't a problem. Once you've found the perfect temperature for your water, you set the tap control at that level. The water then comes out perfectly warm or hot to suit you as soon as you turn the tap on.
Before you buy your walk-in bath, have a chat with your plumber. They can explain more about how temperature-controlled taps work, and if you do decide to have a control fitted, can sort this out for you when they come to install your bath.
