Starting Out Tips For Self-Employed Contractors

Two Types of Bathroom Problems That Need to Be Dealt With Quickly

There are certain types of bathroom problems that should be dealt with quickly. Here are two examples of problems that can occur in this room that need to be repaired as fast as possible.

Leaking shower grout

The grout between shower tiles is somewhat water-resistant. However, it is not entirely waterproof. Because of this, most grouting that is used in shower cubicles in bathrooms is covered with a sealant which prevents water droplets that land on it from being absorbed into the grouting material.

Over the course of a few years, this sealant may deteriorate. This can lead to the grout underneath it absorbing moisture each time someone uses the shower, which can then eventually lead to the grout leaking water into other areas of the bathroom (such as the wall behind the tiles in the shower or onto the bathroom floor).

This is a problem that needs to be addressed quickly by a tradesperson that provides leaking grout shower repairs. The reason for this is that every time you use the shower when the grout is in this condition, more water will leak from the grout into other parts of the bathroom and cause damage. For example, the leaking water may start to penetrate the nearby wall plaster and, in doing so, cause the plaster to crumble. After this, large chunks of the plaster may begin to fall off the wall.

If this happens, you would need to not only repair the leaking grout but would also have to rent or buy a heavy-duty dehumidifier to completely dry out the wall before hiring a plasterer to add new plaster to it.

A broken extractor fan

If the integrated extractor fan in your bathroom has broken, it is crucial to get this appliance repaired immediately. It is particularly important to do this if the window in this room is very small. This is because if there is no functioning extractor fan in the bathroom and there is only a tiny window in this area, the humidity that is generated each time someone takes a bath or a shower will linger for a long time.

If this happens repeatedly, it could cause damage to many parts of the bathroom. The moisture in the air could, for example, lead to mould growing on the walls and mildew forming on the bathtub and shower areas. The former could be hard to remove from the paint or wallpaper and may be hazardous to the health of those who use the facilities.

Additionally, repeated exposure to high humidity levels could eventually cause the paint or the wallpaper to peel off the walls.

As such, if your extractor fan breaks, you should arrange for a repair person to fix it as soon as possible.
