Starting Out Tips For Self-Employed Contractors

Two tips for renovating a house after your partner moves in

If your partner has just moved in and you want to renovate your home, here is some advice that you may find helpful.

Consider turning your en-suite bathroom into a built-in wardrobe

If you have an en-suite bathroom in the bedroom where you and your partner now sleep, you might want to consider having the contractor who will be handling your renovation project turn this area into a built-in wardrobe.

The reason for this is as follows; if you and your partner are both fashion enthusiasts, and as a result of this, you each have quite a large collection of clothing, footwear and accessories, your existing storage space in your bedroom may end up overflowing with garments.

This could make it difficult to find the items that you want to wear each morning and could give your bedroom a very messy appearance.

It could also increase the chances of your favourite pieces of clothing sustaining damage (as garments that are stuffed into an already-full wardrobe or chest of drawers are more likely to get torn, stretched out or snagged on the zips or buttons of other items.

In this situation, you might find a spacious built-in wardrobe more useful than an en-suite, particularly if the main bathroom in your home is quite close to your bedroom.

Having an extra space, attached to your bedroom, in which you can store you and your partner's footwear, garments and accessories should help to ensure that your shared bedroom is easy to keep tidy and organised and that you can quickly locate any specific clothing items you want to wear, without having to rummage through overstuffed wardrobes or drawers.

Built-in wardrobes are quite straightforward to construct and don't usually cost a great deal. As such, this addition to your home shouldn't make your renovations too expensive and could make a very big difference to how much you and your partner enjoy living in your house together.

Take your partner's interests into consideration when renovating certain rooms

If you have lived in your current property on your own for quite some time, you are probably accustomed to making decisions regarding your home without ever thinking about anyone else's needs.

However, after your partner moves in and the renovations get underway, you will need to take their needs into consideration, as well as your own.

For example, if your partner loves to cook elaborate meals but you have no interest whatsoever in this activity, it is important to take their love of food into consideration when renovating the kitchen.

Whilst you might have been quite happy to have your contractor create a very basic new kitchen, with little more than a small worktop, a sink and a compact cooker in it, your partner might appreciate a kitchen with a more thoughtfully-designed layout and features that will make cooking in this area of the home easy and enjoyable.

In this situation, you might want to ask the contractor to built a kitchen island (so that there is plenty of space for your partner to prep fruits and vegetables) and instruct them to install an integrated cooker with six hobs (so that your other half can cook lots of dishes at once).
